HONOREES
HILARY BALLON & ORIN KRAMER
The founder of Boston Provident, Orin has been a lifelong champion of government reforms that improve the lives of the most vulnerable—from his work in the Carter administration to his leadership in shining light on abuses in New York’s nursing homes. His late wife Hilary was one of New York’s great urbanists, contributing six memorable books and curating several inspiring exhibits about the city and its built environment. She was a University Professor and deputy vice chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi.
DAVID BELT & SCOTT COHEN
David, the managing principal of Macro Sea, and Scott, an artist and filmmaker, are the visionary co-founders, designers, and developers of New Lab, a game-changing space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard that is incubating the growth companies of the future, bolstering Brooklyn’s economy, and helping to position New York as a global leader in the innovation economy.
SHAUN DONOVAN
One of the country’s most innovative and accomplished housing policy leaders, Shaun spearheaded the largest affordable housing plan in the U.S. while serving as HPD Commissioner. Later, as HUD Secretary, he led the Obama Administration’s efforts to aid households in fighting off foreclosure, revitalize distressed communities, combat homelessness, and strengthen Fair Housing.
HOPE KNIGHT
The president and CEO of Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, Hope has played a leading role in bolstering Jamaica, sparking changes that have increased the supply of affordable housing, led to new jobs, expanded economic opportunity for residents across Southeastern Queens, and strengthened one of the city’s most important neighborhoods.

ABOUT THE CENTER
For 23 years now, the CENTER FOR AN URBAN FUTURE has been a catalyst for smart and sustainable policies that expand economic opportunity in New York. More than ever, our research is elevating critical issues onto the radar of public officials and spurring policy changes that strengthen our city and help more New Yorkers advance to the middle class. This past year, our work prompted a major expansion of apprenticeship programs, contributed to a record increase in funding for parks maintenance, sparked reforms to make the city’s capital construction process more efficient, helped libraries win new resources to boost participation in the 2020 Census, led to a new program to support older entrepreneurs, and inspired new policies on everything from automation to portable benefits for independent workers.
